HOW TO SETUP YOUR COMPUTER TO RUN JAVA WEB START
Java Web Start will run on all browsers (Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Internet
Explorer) in Windows 10 and Windows 7. It will also run on Mac with Firefox only.
In all cases, most of our users have Java 1.8.161 and higher already installed. If at any point it prompts
you to update Java go ahead and do it. It is Ok to update your Java version at any time moving forward.
If Java (1.8.161 or higher) is already installed follow the below steps 1 to 3 for Windows or steps 1 to 5
for Mac users. For older versions of Java, Mac Sierra, or Windows follow the steps on the bottom of this
document with the title “How to Troubleshoot”.

To All Users Windows or Mac. Very Important.
Users have to check “Always Launch New Forms Session” under “Forms Launch” in Oracle “Preferences”
setting. See screen shot below.

For Windows
Step 1: Log into in Oracle and click on a responsibility
You will be prompted to run frmservlet.jnlp. Allow all prompts to run and ignore warning messages
and click Open.
*If you open frmservlet and the following instructions pop up:
Chrome Keep file
Edge Open file
Firefox Save File
I installed a fresh copy of Firefox and got all these dialog boxes just for Java not to work.

After the download is complete, open the application with Firefox

Step 2: Check “Do not show this again for apps from the
publisher and location above” and allow the application to run
Step 3: The application will open up. Allow access.
Every time you log in Oracle you will be prompted to run the application as in step 1. You will keep
doing this step moving forward except in Firefox browsers where it will not prompt you.

For Mac
Step 1: Download the install Firefox
Step 2: Make sure you install the latest Java

The site will automatically detect your machine operating system. See below.
Make sure that you have Java Runtime JRE 251 installed first under System Preferences.
Step 3: Mac will ask you to allow open as part of security of the
product. Allow it to run.

Step 4: Open Firefox and log into Oracle
Step 5: Open frmservlet
When you open Oracle Forms, Firefox will ask if you want to open frmservlet.
Click OK to open with Java Web Start (default).

How to Troubleshoot
For Windows users, if older Java prior to 1.8.161 is installed, you need to uninstall all Java versions and
install new Java as in the steps below first.
All Users (Mac or Windows) need to make sure that Java security allows the site.
In Windows: Go to Control Panel Java.
Under the Security tab make sure to add to the Exception Site List:

In Mac: Go to System Preferences Java
Under the Security tab make sure to add to the Exception Site List:
http://nprodapp.sausd.us:8000/
*The steps below are for those that need to uninstall and reinstall Java in case you have problems
running in Windows.

If you encounter any errors (below) after logging into Oracle and launching a responsibility, you will
need to uninstall and reinstall Java.
Step 1: In Windows 10 or Windows 7, use the Search to go to
Control Panel and to “Programs and Features” to remove Java

Step 2: Select “Uninstall” Java (Whatever version of Java you
have)
Step 3: Say Yes to uninstall
Step 4: Go to the Java website and install the latest version.

Step 5: Agree and Start Free Download to install Java
Step 6: Reboot Your Computer
Step 7: Now Perform Steps 1 to 4
For Mac if you want to use Safari or Firefox on version “Sierra” or Prior
If you have OS X Catalina use the latest Firefox. If you have OS X Sierra follow the following steps and
you can run it in Safari.
*Java Web Start does not run in Safari in OS X Catalina, it only runs in Firefox.

To find which Safari version you have open Safari, and go to About Safari:
Step 1: Install Java Runtime JRE 251
Make sure that you have Java Runtime JRE 251 installed first under System Preferences.

Congratulations!!
You are all set now, go and login into Oracle and launch the application.
